10:10 am - 10:50 am Exploring the Western Sydney Project Office Road Design Approach and Customer Experience Focus

This session will explore the customer experience focus of the Western Sydney Project Office (WSPO), focusing on road upgrades around the Western Sydney Airport set to open at Badgerys creek. Specifically this session will discuss the current traffic conditions and expectations of WSPO construction contracts including:

  • Case study of the Northern Road, M4 motorway and M31 Hume motorway that will discuss the treatment and conditions of these road upgrades and how RMS endeavors to maintain existing speed limits on these networks
  • Exploring the Road closure conditions of these contracts
  • Understanding WSPO's traffic management plan approval process and its mian challenges
  • Case study of the 9.8 second delay on the M31 motorway
  • Exploring the process to redesign a pedestrian bridge over a motorway and the associated lowering of motorway speed limit to increase safety on the network

12:30 pm - 1:10 pm Exploring Risk and Contingency Management in Road Infrastructure Design to Enable Opportunities

1:10 pm - 2:10 pm LUNCH

2:10 pm - 2:50 pm Exploring how Wyndham City has planned to Maintain a Growing and Thriving Network in a Time of Unprecedented Arterial Road Construction

Wyndham City is currently in the top few national growth municipalities in Melbourne, growing from 74 000 occupants in 1996 to 242 000 in 2017, with forecasted growth of an extra 248 000 occupants by 2041. In this session, David Serpell and Nitin Gupta will discuss council’s strategy for road access growth and tactics to facilitate contributed access to the network to keep it alive in a period of unprecedented road construction which carries the risk of network failure. This session will include:

  • Facilitating for future growth during the planning & delivery of road projects
  • Influencing a State controlled $30 million package of arterial road works and the challenges to keep all levels of network open during the construction of new road infrastructure
  • Future proofing of new road networks
  • Increasing connectivity and accessibility of the network

2:50 pm - 3:30 pm Demand Modelling of Road Infrastructure and Communicating Effectively with Commuters

This session will explore how Sydney’s road network is currently being used and the best practises to communicate disruptions and changes to the commuter to allow them to adapt to the changing network.

  • The principal factors that have contributed to the changing and developing network of Sydney
  • Creating a resource in this case Travel Choices which allows developers to communicate with commuters and prevent further delays and disruption on the network
  • How can developers effective increase network capacity while also encouraging use of alternative, intermodal transport
